RELEASE DATE: 2009-09-26

Spaceheater’s Blast Furnace is a rhythmically active six piece ensemble that presents melodic and tight horns over an organic patchwork of
afro-latin and hip hop rhythms. The music is composed and arranged by Evan Francis, a member of the original duo who has made his way
performing and recording with a diverse list of musical luminaries: Stevie Wonder, Billy Higgins, JBoogie’s Dubtronic Science, Marcus
Shelby, Taylor Eigsti, Christina Aguilera, Lyrics Born, Dr. Art Davis, Mike Keneally, Mikey Dread, and John Clayton.
The music on their Ropeadope debut is representative of Evan’s background in afro-latin music, especially in the realm of modern
Cuban dance music. As a band, Spaceheater’s Blast Furnace has worked hard to earn support from audiences in and around the San
Francisco Bay area, featuring the electronics-laced drumming of Patrick “PDubL” Korte and the deep pocket of Josh Hari on the bass,
both talented rhythmists who have backed up artists like Lyrics Born, Peter Rowan and Kev Choice. This album also features the work of
young trombonist Garrett Smith, who’s impressive resume of employers includes Prince, Maceo Parker, George Clinton and many
more. Spaceheater has been fortunate to have live and in-studio associations with artists like Kneebody, Kev Choice, Daedelus,
Abstract Rude and Mochipet.
“'The Record' is easily the best album I've heard this year. It's so effortlessly hip, funky, interesting, and fun simultaneously.
It's a joy to listen to and a joy to play on the radio."

About the Artist
Spaceheater began as a duo, Bill producing pulsating beats with Evan’s flutes, saxes and clarinets providing melody and harmony. After the duo wished to expand their abilities they became Spaceheater’s Blast Furnace a rhythmically active six piece ensemble that presents melodic and tight horns over an organic patchwork of afro-latin and hip hop rhythms.
Original member Evan Francis is the main contributor, composing and arranging the songs for Spaceheater’s Blast Furnace. The music on their self-titled Ropeadope debut album is representative of Evan’s background in afro-latin music, especially in the realm of modern Cuban dance music. The other members include talented rhythmists drummer Patrick “PDubL” Korte and the deep pocket of Josh Hari on the bass, earning them strong support in their local San Francisco area. Finish the lineup with the young talented trombonist Garrett Smith, whose resume is far beyond his age.
The music is a mixture of many different pieces and parts occuring at one time, but never overwhelming. Each shows off the talents of the musician and shows how so many different musicians can come together to create a piece that is a larger whole than any individual. With horns reaching the highs and lows of the scales, matching up against dream beat’s you could hear out of any jazz drummer or hip-hop drummer. The bass and electronic workings keep the music with a funky and modern feel, placing the bottom end of the songs where it belongs, but stands out as how well it is done and placed.
"Spaceheater is one of the very few groups out there that are able to pair a strong sense of groove and motion with musical sophistication. Evan Francis is a bad motherfucker."
