Silences Sumire - Chicago, IL

Fiercely interested in remixing, modern composition, new modes of improvisation, and growth.

Both Thomas and Charles began their musical career in the world of jazz based improvisation, performing for years with various composition groups in Chicago's underground venues. Inspired by new forms of electronic music, the duo segued into the worlds of studio production and electronic instruments, forming Silences Sumire in early 2007.

Blending organic instrumentation and jazz sensibilities in the world of digital manipulation, Silences Sumire has become one of the most prolific groups in the Chicago music scene. They are central to the hybrid collective/label/festival ears&eyes and produce a series of remix EPs to highlight creative instrumental groups (the first two for local heros Algernon and the Drastics).  The first full length album, Return is Selective is here.
