About the Artist
Yameen is the Philly-bred, San Francisco-located producer/M.C. that continues to blaze trails, which are now (finally) being discovered by the underground tribes. No part time thing, Yameen (owner of several aliases including "stinke" and "supremeEx") first appeared on our radar when URB magazine picked him as one of their "Next 100". The next hit was his work with Souls of Mischief and the Hieroglyphics crew. But nothing could have prepared us for the mind-boggling, genre-bending, modern-day-underground-hip-hop masterpiece that is Never Knows Best.
Putting his producer foot first, the album started out as an instrumental anthem, but Yameen soon found friends old and new lining up at his door looking for beats. He was all too kind to oblige. The result is this 12 track sizzler that includes an impressive list of collaborators, including the legendary Shock G (Digital Underground), Azeem (OM Records) , Lady Alma (4Hero, Black Lily), Georgia Anne Muldrow (Stones Throw), Casual (Hieroglyphics), DJ Icewater (Pharcyde, Quannum) and Maylay Sparks (K7!).
If the clocks were turned back and the year was 1992 Yameen would be a member of the Native Tounges, signed to Tommy Boy and a fixture on Yo MTV raps. Ahhhh but it's 2008 and fame will have to wait. For now, this is his ropeadope digital debut. We are honored to have him in our crew.
