The journey for
e.s.t. (the Esbjörn Svensson Trio) now comes to an unfortunate end with Leucocyte, the last album after
Svensson’s accidental death while scuba diving near Stockholm. To say Esbjörn Svensson will be missed is a massive understatement, but his legend lives on with the wonderful expressive music of e.s.t. The name of the album Leucocyte comes from its literal definition - white blood cells, a part of the human immune system that protects the body against foreign pathogens and must periodically be renewed to continue their work. Similarly, e.s.t.'s spontaneous jam sessions were precisely their way to renew and rejuvenate. By using this method they were able to fuse traditional jazz, funk and rock to create a tapestry of genres, and Leucocyte shows e.s.t. taking it to the next level with their most daring, innovative and ground breaking performance. The recording was the result of a two day jam sessions that took place at the famed "Studios 301" in Sydney during the band's 2007 Australian tour.Leucocyte pays tribute and carries on the memory of one of the most innovative jazz trios of our times. Capturing the incredible concert performances, Emarcy will simultaneously also release a double live album, Live In Hamburg.
