Straight out the funk bucket, U.K.-based Soul Jazz Records is offering the long-lost French cult classic “Les Stances a Sophie” on DVD. Filmed in Paris in 1970, the film is known for its wacked-out soundtrack scored by the Art Ensemble of Chicago. It also features some dope footage of the war-painted supergroup in a sweaty Parisian basement. The DVD features performances with Fontella Bass, Archie Shepp and Ornette Coleman. Check a clip here
