Big Picture Holiday

Celebrating 2015 - Big Picture Holiday

AVRAM FEFER is a musical peer of many on the scene, from John Medeski to Vernon Reid, with Roy Hargrove and Tony Allen along the way. His new project is called BIG PICTURE HOLIDAY, and the first release - SHIMMER AND MELT - is the sleeper of the year even after a solid reception from press and radio. This is that record that remains in your collection and always hits you right. Don’t think so? Drop it in the mix and see what happens.

Shimmer and melt

Here it is! The brainchild of NYC saxophonist Avram Fefer,Big Picture Holiday's SHIMMER AND MELT is right in line with classic funky jam-jazz like Medeski Martin & Wood, Project Logic and early Snarky Puppy, with influences ranging from Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, and Ornette Coleman to Afrobeat, Ethiopian, and Moroccan music. It is a musical globetrotter’s fresh take on dirty late-night street jazz – sophisticated, sly, and provocative... full of neon lights, shooting stars, and fleeting innuendo. You can pick up Shimmer And Melt here, or high quality audio and compact disc here.

Big Picture Holiday at Rockwood

Saxophonist Avram Fefer describes his upcoming release: 'By the time I was ready to record Shimmer and Melt, I had absorbed many influences from all over the map, both artistically and geographically.' We can hear it, and we are honored to present Shimmer and Melt in all its glory this coming Friday. New Yorkers get a treat as Avram and the band hit Rockwood Music Hall on November 8. Get your copy of Shimmer and Melt right here, and drop the show on your calendar right over here.

A message from Avram Fefer

Over the years I have been very lucky to record with some incredible musicians --- Bobby Few,Eric Revis, Igal Foni, Newman Taylor Baker, Chad Taylor, Steve Swell, Michael Bisio, Jay Rosen, Adam Lane, Wilber Morris, and many others... These were all live acoustic performances and required little of me personally in the way of recording techniques or post-production. The difference with my new album is it's an electric group playing primarily funkified jazz and dance music...I spent quite a few days in the studio over the past year trying to get it 'just right' and --- lo and behold --- I think I actually did!! In any case, it definitely took me out of my comfort zone and I am very proud of the results. Please take a second to listen to the samples and pre-order if you like 'em!! The album comes out officially on Oct. 30 and the CD Release show is in NYC on Nov. 8th....
