The Sax man
We are proud to announce that Frank Catalano is joining the Ropeadope family. The energetic sax player has played on Grammy winning recordings and has played with so many greats we can't fit them in the post. Frank has a new band with Jimmy Chamberlin (Smashing Pumpkins) and they're hitting the ground running with two shows this weekend in Chicago. Their first EP Love Supreme Collective (which needs no explanation) drops on July 29, and a full length is due in early 2015. Oh, and he's a race car driver.
Elephant Wrecking Ball
When Scott Flynn isn't on the road with John Brown's Body he's on the road with Pretty Lights. When he isn't doing either of those, he's composing and touring with Elephant Wrecking Ball - a drum (Neal Evans) and bass (Dan Africano) combo with Scott's trombone up front and many pedals below. This is creation, this is pushing boundaries, this is Elephant Wrecking Ball. Their new release, Barren Serenade drops right here next Tuesday. Put the cans on and dig in.
A young Japanese boy is classically trained from the age of seven, hears rock and roll music and trades his violin for a Hofner bass. Thus begins the musical exploration of Takashi Tsuzuki. After four long years Takashi returns to Ropeadope with two releases - 'From Japan' and 'From Tokyo'. Takashi's compositions are a mix of organic and electronic sounds that are deep, emotive, and dramatic - as if he is musically narrating the subconscious mind or an ancient subterranean world. Both albums are set for worldwide release on June 24 th, and we highly recommend them as a set.Tune in right here for a sneak listen.
