GET PAID (HOW MUCH?)

GET PAID (HOW MUCH?)

In August LA music venue Sunset Junction was denied a permitby the Board of Public Works, due to unpaid fees. This left everyone scrambling to get money they were owed, including ticket buyers, vendors, and bands themselves. Court records reveal how much each act scheduled to perform was supposed to be paid. And so here it is, every single band and DJ, listed from biggest missed payday to smallest. Surprises abound: $22,000 for freaking Clap Your Hands Say Yeah? $20,000 for Hanson? Only $500 for swimsuit edition hero Nick Waterhouse? The full list of which band was to get paid what amount is here.

TURN UP THE BLACK RADIO

TURN UP THE BLACK RADIO

The Robert Glasper Experiment's new album Black Radio draws from jazz, hip hop, R+B and rock, but refuses to be pinned down by any one tag. It comes out via Blue Note Records tomorrow (2/27) and NPR does a great feature of the whole project on their music site and you can listen to the whole album in it's entirety here.

SNARKY PUPPY = THING OF GOLD

SNARKY PUPPY = THING OF GOLD

Sometimes life is about being in the right place at the right time and that thought holds particularly true when it comes to ropeadope & Snarky Puppy.   We met Michael League, we met the band, we hung out for a weekend by the swamp in Lafayette La, and, well, we fell in musical love.   A wonderful product of that love-making is the Pups new CD-DVD "Ground Up" coming out in April - you can pre-order it here, but do yourself a favor, and click this link right here to watch Thing of Gold - and tell me that you know of another band of young folks that make music this sweet!
