GLOBAL NOIZE
This from Ropeadope all-star taper Scott Bernstien who presents his recording of Global Noize - a DJ Logic project with Billy Martin, Karl Denson, Oteil Burbridge, Bernie Worrell, Topaz, and more. Real good stuff that Scott recorded live at Jazz Fest and is now giving you two options for downloading. Bittorrent here, or if you'd prefer to download directly get it here. Here's some (grainy -- it was REALLY dark inside the venue) photos Scott took at this show.
COLLECTING LINKS
Gone are the days when I collected the vinyl, collected the CD's, and just collected stuff - but now, I have become a collector of links.
MATUTO RULES NYC:
Team Dope - a reminder - if you're anywhere near NYC during this Memorial Day weekend, make sure you jump on board the Matuto tour. Five shows in five nights? Out of sight. This is a real treat - impress your girl, impress your friends, this is a party that just won't end. Dig more Matuto here. Epk here. Ropeadope debut here.
FLASH PROTEST OF BP
My girl Hallie Hughes Hawkins hipped me to this flash protest of BP, which is organized by Johnny Azari (of the Dirty Pearls, Electric Black, etc). As Hallie said, "I know you love New Orleans (and the earth in general!)"...I would be there in NYC if i could, but i can't - hope you can. Do something.
JARRETT & HADEN SITTING IN A TREE
After three decades without a collaboration, jazz legends Keith Jarrett and Charlie Haden have teamed up for a new album called Jasmine. The piano-and-bass duo recorded Jasmine in Jarrett's studio at his New Jersey home — no bells, no whistles, just crystal-clear sound. Excellent feature on NPR here. Stream the album here.
BP AND THE LITTLE EICHMANS
Really feeling like I should make this whole blog black like the oil that's destroying our most precious jewels on this planet. How can we all just sit by (myself included) without inciting a riot over these atrocities? What happened to Get Up, Stand Up? What happened to rage? Who's gonna change the world now that the devil is fully in control? It's BP and the Little Eichmanns, and it makes me sick.
