about the artist

We are all accustomed to musicians from around the world and their unique take on Jazz, but rarely do we hear from the mysterious land of Russia. A Wikipedia search of Russian jazz musicians yields only eleven entries. But these are the new times of global connection, and now from Moscow comes Analog Attention, a group of young jazz musicians from the Moscow College Improvisational Music and State College of Music Pop & Jazz Art. Led by multi-instrumentalist and composer Max Shcherbakov, the band draws from a diverse array of influences in jazz and electronic music - Jaga Jazzist, Massive Attack, Erik Truffaz, Weather Report, Red Snapper, DJ Shadow, The Cinematic Orchestra, and Medeski Martin & Wood. Add some old school funk - The Meters, Sly Stone, Funkadelic, Maceo Parker, and Kool & The Gang -- and we see clearly that world influences are not lost on the youth of Russia. Reinvention is what keeps music alive and vibrant, passing styles from generation to generation. Analog Attention's unique take on jazz and funk, mixed with electronic influences, is refreshing and simply enjoyable. They take the craft seriously, but manage to keep a strong sense of youth and joy in their presentation. Their debut LP, City Limits, plays like a story of life in a new urban landscape that rambles through the cities of the world with young and hopeful eyes. We at Ropeadope look forward to seeing Analog Attention grow and bring their fresh perspective to the world. Analog Attention are Max Shcherbakov (guitars, laptops, arrangement), Slava Mayorov (drums), Alex Minneyev (flute, sax), Misha Brucheyev (trumpet), Alex Yanitskiy (keyboards, laptops), Sergey Bezruchko (bass).
